This week’s Articulate challenge was to create a virtual tour. Given how varied my journey to e-learning has been, I thought it might make for an interesting tour.
Design Inspiration
I liked one of David Anderson’s inspiration examples enough to create something similar. It’s a New York Times virtual wine tour of Italy. I appreciated how quick and compact it was while still providing enough information to make for a good tour.
Content
I capped it at 30 jobs, but there were more. At times I worked up to 5 simultaneous part-time jobs in college. Multiply that by a whole lot of quarters and semesters, and we could have been here all day.

If you’d like the tour, take it here.
Download the Free Storyline Template!
This piece was easier than most to make into a template to give away, so that’s what I did. Grab it on the download page, then have fun making your own tour!
Wow, Jackie, you’ve gotten around! I really like the simplicity of this interaction.
Thanks so much, Jeff! That’s what I liked about the inspiration example from David, too. Makes it easy to scan a lot of info very quickly.
Jackie I loved it.I may have to do something like that for myself one day. Unfortunately, I’ve not lived the exotic life or enjoyed the thrilling experiences you’ve had. I bet you earned a lot of airline miles. :)
Richard
Thank you, Richard! I love your “exotic life and thrilling experiences” description. If ever I bother doing a resume again, that’ll be the splashy pull quote at the top. Yes, the miles were earned; the miles were happily used. :) Would love to see your version someday!
Great adaptation of the wine tour, Jackie. I like the bigger map in your example because it emphasizes just how much territory you’ve covered. I will take issue with your pepperoni comment, I find elearning requires a lot of pepperoni.. at least the way I make elearning:-)
Nice touch with the road sign callout.
Thanks, David! I wasn’t too sure about giving more real estate to the map (due to the far larger geography) and taking away from the featured image sizes – but it’s fine for now. It would be fun to revisit this to adjust the design and add some context to answer the obvious “What the…??” questions raised.
It is with humility that I accept your dismissal of my pepperoni assertion as it relates to e-learning. I feel I was too hasty in my judgment and hadn’t fully thought it through. (Unlike my career path.)
Thank you for your comment!
I love the template – thank you for making it available! Thanks for showing how you made this too – it’s fantastic!
You’re so welcome, Amy! I’m more than happy to do it. And thank you so much for stopping by! I really appreciate it.
Great job Jackie taking what I’m sure was a very complex story and summarizing it in this piece. Yours has truly been an incredible journey!
Thanks, Dan! I might fill in the blanks sometime, but the structure of my peripatetic life-is-an-adventure approach to life and career is pretty much there. :) Glad you liked it!
I enjoy reading Jackie’s posts and love the way she shares her knowledge. Thank you!
Thank you, Patricia! I appreciate that very much. :)
